WE BELIEVE THAT ART LITERACY...

  • Encourages students to think creatively and to problem solve, which prepares them for their futures.
  • Helps students to learn how to observe; something writers, doctors, naturalists, and climatologists, and people in many other careers need to know how to do.
  • Gives students the opportunities to form mental images, an ability chemists, engineers, architects, designers, and inventors use to think up new ideas.
  • Celebrates many perspectives. Students learn to value diverse views and cultures, which is ever important in a global society.
  • Communicates ideas and emotions of the human spirit, connecting us to our history, traditions, and heritage.
  • Provides an artistic platform for students to realize that there are many ways to see and interpret our beautiful world.
  • Is important for a child’s development as a person.

ART LITERACY 2022 - 2023

We are currently scheduling the Art Literacy Training sessions for the 2022 – 2023 school year. Once those dates are finalized, we will send an announcement to the Hiteon community with the ways you can volunteer for Art Literacy. If you have not yet completed your background check and application, please do so. Information on how to volunteer is below.

What is required to be a volunteer?

Enthusiasm for art and willingness to share your enthusiasm to the students. You DO NOT need to have an art or art history background in order to volunteer. All volunteers will gather before each new artist, approximately every six (6) weeks, to receive training. The total time commitment is approximately four (4) hours for each of the six (6) artists which includes training and classroom presentation time.

How do I participate?

If you are interested in volunteering, you will need to complete an application, background check, and upload your COVID-19 vaccination status. Volunteers will be able to view and sign-up for open volunteer needs, and communicate directly with Hiteon’s Volunteer Coordinators. Please visit the Beaverton School District Volunteer page to begin the Volunteer and Background Check Application process.
